If you are currently visiting Athens or heading to the city center, allow extra travel time and rely on buses or trams which are operating as scheduled. Check with local transit updates before setting out.

Metro Station Closures in Athens and Thessaloniki

Due to widespread student, teacher, and public sector rallies, Greek authorities have implemented temporary closures at several key metro stations across Athens and Thessaloniki.

In Athens, Line 2 station "Panepistimio" at Propylaea is closed following orders from the Hellenic Police. In Thessaloniki, stations including "Dimokratias", "Venizelou", "Agias Sofias", and "Syntrivani" have temporarily suspended service.

Traffic Disruptions in Downtown Athens

Driving conditions in central Athens are expected to be challenging throughout the day. Streets surrounding Omonia Square and Syntagma Square are heavily congested or impassable. Traffic police strongly advise the public not to drive personal vehicles into the city center.

Status of Buses and Other Transit Modes

Buses, trolleybuses, trams, and the ISAP electric railway are operating normally as no formal strike action has been announced for these sectors.

However, authorities warn that localized delays, route modifications, and temporary service disruptions may occur on specific lines due to marches passing through central avenues.
