Severe weather impacts Greek islands
Adverse weather conditions have caused serious disruptions across parts of Rhodes and Lesbos, bringing heavy downpours and strong winds. In Rhodes, intense rainfall accumulated heavily on roads, while hail was reported in Ialysos. Floodwaters entered the halls of the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal, temporarily disrupting judicial operations.
Power cuts were experienced across parts of the city center and Ialysos. At Diagoras Airport, large amounts of water gathered on the roadways, creating difficulties for vehicles, buses, and passengers trying to access the terminals.
Meanwhile, Lesbos experienced heavy precipitation from early morning, with peak rainfall recorded in Skala Eressos and Skala Polichnitou. In Skala Eressos, the severe downpour flooded residential yards and washed away a car. A fallen tree was cleared near a local school, and debris obstructed traffic on routes leading to Vafios.
Local municipal teams in West Lesbos remain deployed on-site to clear debris and restore normal conditions. Power disruptions in the Eressos area also temporarily affected local water supply systems, while repair works continue across the affected zones.
