The President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, launched a strong attack against the Greek government regarding its handling of the new wave of fuel price increases. He argued that rising fuel costs directly affect production, transport, heating, and basic goods, placing a heavy daily burden on households at a time when citizens' purchasing power remains among the lowest in the European Union.

European Comparisons and Four Proposals
Androulakis pointed to examples from other European countries, such as Italy and France, where authorities intervened to temporarily reduce excise taxes or cap prices through major energy groups, utilizing extra VAT revenues to protect consumers.
To counter the rising costs, the PASOK president put forward a concrete package of four interventions:
- Reduction of excise duty on transport fuel and heating oil.
- A mechanism to return excess VAT revenue to consumers resulting from higher prices.
- Substantial and systematic audits of profit margins throughout the supply chain.
- Establishment of a permanent mechanism to tax excess profits of oligopolies.
He concluded that these measures must be implemented immediately before winter places further strain on household budgets.
