The island of Corfu continues to record strong performance as the tourist season winds down, driven by an uptick in international flights and record-breaking cruise activity.
Growth in Flights from Israel and Europe
During September, aviation authorities recorded 2,331 international commercial flight arrivals, marking a 7.5% increase compared to the same month last year. Among the contributing markets, Israel showed a notable rise with 96 arrivals compared to 70 previously.
Other key markets such as Germany, Poland, and Italy also registered higher visitor numbers, while Great Britain maintained the top spot for overall incoming travel.
Extending the Tourist Season
Alongside peak season figures, a significant shift in connectivity is emerging. Airlines like easyJet plan to maintain UK routes through January, creating an unprecedented bridge from the summer season into the winter months.
Record Cruise Numbers
Corfu's cruise sector is equally impressive, noting a 20.1% increase in passenger traffic during the first nine months of the year, with over 851,000 visitors. Current estimates project that the island will exceed one million cruise passengers by year-end.
During a recent infrastructure conference, port authorities outlined future investment plans, including a new cruise terminal and upgrades to maritime networks across the region.
