Corfu: Historic Asani building in the old town leased for 30 years
The Hellenic Public Properties Company signed a long-term lease agreement with a private firm for the complete renovation of the six-story historic property.
- The lease is for 30 years with an option for an additional 10-year extension.
- The winning company will implement an extensive investment program to fully renovate the structure.
- The 867-square-meter building is located at Town Hall Square in the UNESCO-listed old town.
Why this matters: For Israelis following Greek real estate developments and urban renewal projects in popular island destinations like Corfu, this highlights the ongoing process of bringing abandoned historic properties back into commercial use.
The Hellenic Public Properties Company has signed a 30-year lease agreement, with a potential 10-year extension, for the utilization of the historic Asani building located at Town Hall Square in the heart of Corfu's UNESCO-protected old town. The contractor is KONTOS CONCREATE A.T.E., which submitted the highest bid in the electronic tender finalized in June 2025.
The lessee undertakes an extensive investment program for the complete renovation and structural upgrade of the property, aiming for its restoration and reopening. The six-story building, spanning a total surface of 867 square meters, had remained abandoned for years and was designated as hazardous within the historic center. Although the property was granted to the Municipality of Central Corfu in 2023, the decision was revoked by the Municipal Council in 2024 as it could not be included in a funding tool for its restoration. The property is now entering the restoration phase, focusing on its new role within the city's historic center while preserving its architectural character.
