Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Greece surged in 2026 after reaching a record 12.6 billion euros last year, with inflows nearly doubling during the first seven months. According to figures from the Bank of Greece, FDI inflows reached 7.6 billion euros between January and July, up from 3.9 billion euros in the same period of 2025.
Two major business developments contributed to the increase. In January, UniCredit increased its stake in Alpha Bank, and in May, Public Power Corporation completed a share capital increase that attracted international investment firms.
Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras noted that FDI brings capital, know-how, and advanced business practices to the domestic economy. In 2025, the services sector attracted the largest share of FDI at 6.7 billion euros, followed by significant investments in energy and real estate.
