Festival Strike Disruptions in Athens
Employees at the Athens-Epidaurus Festival launched a 24-hour strike today, following a decision by their union after a general assembly, as announced by the Panhellenic Federation of Entertainment Workers.
In addition to the full-day stoppage, the union announced work stoppages for Monday, October 5, running from 10:00 to 14:00 and again from 20:00 to 24:00.
Union Demands and Background
The mobilization stems from the festival management's decision not to renew contracts for experienced employees who have long supported the organization's needs, according to the federation's official statement.
The Greek Actors Union also expressed solidarity, calling on the public and industry professionals to oppose what they describe as widespread staff reductions across major state cultural institutions, demanding the immediate cancellation of the dismissals.
