Continuous firefighting operations in Aigaleo
A fire has been burning throughout the night at two clothing and textile workshops located on Agiou Panteleimonos Street in Aigaleo, Athens. The firefighting operation remains ongoing as flammable materials complicate the work of the crews, while dense smoke creates a heavy atmosphere in the neighborhood.
A total of 35 firefighters operating 11 vehicles, alongside an articulated ladder truck, are deployed at the scene due to difficult access and limited space for deployment. The Municipality of Aigaleo is assisting firefighting efforts with water tankers. According to officials, the fire is contained and there is currently no risk of further spread.
Preventative evacuation and heavy smoke
Due to the high thermal load, the buildings have suffered severe structural damage. Consequently, a preventative evacuation is being carried out for anyone within a 400-meter radius of the structures, assisted by the Hellenic Police (ELAS).
A significant amount of smoke continues to emit from the site, drifting south toward the Piraeus area. Firefighters remain on the scene to bring the fire completely under control.
