Greek tax authorities have introduced a new structured framework allowing taxpayers to significantly reduce penalties by settling audits early.

  • Taxpayers can achieve a reduction of up to 50 percent in fines by accepting audit findings at the initial stage.
  • The procedure is handled digitally through the dedicated platform on the myAADE website.
  • A 25 percent down payment is required within three days, with the remainder payable in up to 12 installments.
What it means for you

For Israeli residents and business owners operating in Greece, navigating the tax system (AADE) requires strict attention to deadlines. Utilizing the digital acceptance procedure for early settlements can prevent costly legal disputes, though you must ensure you have the financial capacity to meet the strict payment schedules.

New Framework for Fine Reductions

Greek tax authorities have implemented a structured mechanism allowing taxpayers to decrease their audit penalties by as much as 50 percent. The system aims to resolve tax disputes swiftly and reduce the backlog of cases pending before administrative courts.

The reduction rate is tiered according to the specific stage atid at which the taxpayer decides to close the case. The earlier the acceptance of the audit findings, the greater the financial benefit.

Stages and Digital Procedures

The digital service is accessible via the official myAADE portal (myaade.gov.gr) under the relevant tax services section. The reduction options correspond to four consecutive stages:

  • Initial stage: Up to a 50 percent reduction if findings are accepted before the final tax assessment is issued.
  • Post-assessment stage: Up to a 40 percent reduction after the final assessment notice is served, prior to administrative dispute resolution.
  • Post-dispute stage: A 30 percent reduction following a decision by the dispute resolution directorate.
  • Court stage: A 25 percent reduction available up to the day before the scheduled court hearing.

Conditions and Payment Terms

Securing the fine reduction requires strict adherence to deadlines. A common prerequisite across all stages is the payment of 25 percent of the total due amount within three days of accepting the audit results.

The remaining balance can be settled through standard installment arrangements of up to 12 monthly payments. Failing to meet the payment terms results in the loss of the reduction, reverting the debt to its original amount.
